Decorating Styles And Ideas For Your Walls
By Mr. Andrew Caxton
It is relatively easy to dress up a bare wall in order to make a room more inviting. With a bit of inspiration you needn't spend any money achieving spectacular results
It is relatively easy to transform an austere and unattractive room into a warm and inviting space. By simply dressing up your walls you can give the room some character. There are many ways you can do this. By following some of ideas below you can decorate your walls and inject some life into a bleak room.
One of the ways to add interest and depth to a wall surface is to add texture. This decorating technique can be taken to extremes, and most people find it bit too peculiar for their homes. I’ve seen some rather mad versions that included gluing straw to the area: this is not to everyone’s taste!
You can however add texture without going to such a bizarre extent. For instance it is rather easy to find a variety of textured wallpaper, and it can certainly add interest to an area without looking as out of place as hay would.
You can also add depth and texture to a wall by hanging a fine-looking quilt. It not only provides pride of place for a favorite piece or family heirloom but also dresses the wall beautifully. This is one of my favorite ideas amongst the various options open to you.
Bringing your hobbies into the room as part of your wall decorating can also produce fantastic results. We have done this at home to great effect, displaying some of antique tools that my husband collects. It worked well for us as the presenting the collection this way both saved it from gathering dust in the basement and provided us with a relatively inexpensive decorating scheme.
You may also want to display interesting garments, especially if you’re looking at livening up a girl’s room. I used this technique very successfully by hanging some old gowns that I wore to proms and dances when I was a teenager.
It was a shame to leave these rather formal dresses hidden away in the attic while their beautiful colors and designs could be so effective in a young girl’s room. This somehow is a children’s favorite: when our niece visits she makes a beeline for the playroom as soon as she’s through the door.
Sometimes you inject a new lease of life to tired décor by taking some inspiration from the items around you. There are some great ways of decorating walls that do not require a shopping trip.
