Decorating For The Seasons – Spring

By Jessica Ackerman

Spring is a time of new beginnings. It’s when the blooms that have slept throughout the cold of winter begin to show again. What better time for some serious spring cleaning? Of course, when the cleaning is done, you’ll want to decorate your home in a way that shows that you celebrate the season.

Decorating for spring can be very therapeutic. You’ve made it through winter with all of its dark evenings and cold walks to the car. Spring is a time for celebration, and you can reflect this by dramatically changing your homes décor. If you are not sure where to begin, you may find the following tips useful.

A good place to start is by changing the paintings on your walls so that they reflect spring. It’s strange how we usually keep the same paintings hanging up, and never really give them much thought. For spring, why not take down pictures that are dark in color and replace them with bright blooms and a color palette that reminds of you of the season?

Changing the photographs you have on display is another fun way to decorate for the season. In the spring, put out photos of family vacations and the kids playing outside. It’s also a perfect time to take advantage of the good weather, and take out your camera and get some colorful spring shots.

If you read a lot of books, why not reflect spring through your bookshelf by displaying all of your gardening books and others which have titles relating to spring and place them in a position they will be noticed.

Remove your furniture coverings or throws and replace them with light colored ones and change your bed sheets and pillowcases as well. Perhaps you could choose some decorated with spring flowers and this can be extended to curtains and tablecloths. Swap out candles, vases and flower arrangements as well.

As you pack away all your out of season accessories, protect them by packing in bubble wrap and mark the boxes for easy storage and retrieval. Any candles should be kept in dry but cool place as the warmer months approach.

Enhance your spring decorating with scents like fresh cut grass, lily of the valley and rain. Incorporate these into potpourri, candles, and fresh flowers.

Another nice touch to bring spring into your home is growing bulbs or a small pot of miniature daffodils. You can use a hot glue gun to stick pieces of moss on to clay pots.

You can then use these to plant your bulbs in or to hold artificial spring plants. Spring displays can be set up in high-traffic areas and don’t forget their kid’s rooms! Swap out their bedding and throw pillows, so that they can catch spring fever, too.

Decorating for spring doesn’t have to be expensive or take a lot of time. Just use your imagination and soon you’ll have a house that shows your love for the season!
