Easy and Inexpensive Scrapbook Gifts You Can Make

By Alyssa Davis

Although some scrapbook projects can take a long time to complete, there are also many different ways that you can create quick and easy scrapbook projects to give as inexpensive gifts. The cost involved in making a small scrapbook gift is often quite minimal. However, the end result is almost always highly appreciated by the recipient, because it is such a beautiful, thoughtful and personalized gift. If you enjoy scrapbooking and saving money, try making this mini scrapbook card. In fact, it's such a cute card that it could even double as a gift.

Mini Scrapbook Cards

The next time you get ready to head out to buy an expensive store-bought greeting card, head to your craft room instead. In almost the same amount of time it would take you to make a simple card, you'll be able to create a cute little scrapbook card that someone will really love. To make the job easier, start with a leftover mismatched envelope from an old box of holiday or greeting cards. Measure the envelope, and design your scrapbook card so that it will fit. Of course, you could also make your own envelope for your card from scrapbook paper if you want to.

Making the Card Base

Once you know what the finished dimensions of the card should be, cut out three appropriately sized pieces of paper. For example, if you want your card to measure four inches by six inches, cut out three pieces of paper, each measuring four inches by twelve inches. Fold each piece of paper in half. Then, nest the three pieces of paper together. If you have a long reach stapler, such as what you would use to put booklets together, simply staple the three pieces of paper together along the fold. If you don't have one of these staplers, punch a few small holes along the fold with a yarn needle. Then, thread pretty cord, yarn or narrow ribbon through the holes and tie to hold the pages together.

Decorating the Card

Once your card base is made, you can start the decorating process. Look through your scrapbook paper collection for paper that will fit the theme of your card. This is a great way to make a cute birthday, holiday or just a "thinking of you" card. Decorate the front of the card with scrapbook paper, cutouts and other embellishments. On each inside page, attach a square of scrapbook paper, just as you would if you were making a full-sized album. If you already have the photos selected that you want to put in the mini scrapbook card, look for papers and embellishments that will enhance each photo. Create a scrapbook page layout for each of the mini pages, using tape squares, photo corners or other adhesives to put them together.

Or, if the card recipient also loves to scrapbook, you could make the card a "do-it-yourself" gift. Simply package the card base, an assortment of scrapbook paper squares sized to fit in the mini scrapbook, and an assortment of embellishments inside the envelope. You might also want to include a photo of the card recipient and yourself so that the card recipient can include it in their cute little mini scrapbook card.
