And if that wasn't enough already, morning sickness is more than simple early morning nausea... it can last all day. Also, a pregnant women needs to exercise caution regarding the medication she take, because there are so many chemicals that can harm an unborn baby. So, because of the pain of morning sickness, and the lack of safe chemical medications, natural remedies for morning sickness are frequently taken. Here are some things you can do that are proven to reduce morning sickness symptoms:
Step 1: Don't let your stomach become empty. An empty stomach is thought to be the source behind many episodes of nausea during pregnancy. To keep a stomach with food in it, you need to do 2 things... First, eat 6 small meals a day, rather than 1 big meal. Second, keep a bland, salty food by the bed such as crackers, and eat a serving whenever you wake up. Do this regardless of what time it is, be it 3:00 in the morning, or 7:00 in the morning. always having a small amount of food in the stomach is an effective way for some women to reduce nausea. It is also extremely safe.
Step 2: Avoid fatty and fried foods. These can cause stomach pain and problems, and arn't good for the body anyway.
Step 3: Make sure to drink plenty of liquids, especially water. Stay away from carbonated sugary drinks like soda, and avoid caffeine.
Step 4: If the nausea or vomiting start to occur, a peppermint oil home made inhaler can suppress it. Simply drop 1 - 3 drops of peppermint essential oil on a handkerchief or napkin, and hold that napkin over the mouth and inhale. Peppermint has a soothing effect, and will reduce the symptoms of nausea. This is so effective, that it was published as a treatment for nausea in the September 1997 issue of "The Journal of Advanced Nursing", a renowned supplementary medical journal.
Step 5: Take a vitamin B6 Supplement. This has been known for a long time, but is just now gaining popularity in preventing morning sickness. In the 1940's, several studies were made on over 300 women, and the conclusions were the same: taking 25 mg - 60 mg of B6 each day can prevent or greatly reduce morning sickness. Ideally, you should take it 3 times per day, in a 10 mg dosage per time - 20 mg capsules at a time. Once as soon as you wake before anything else, once in the middle of the day, and one time at night before bed. Never take more than 100 mg a day, because nerve problems are possible with more than 100 mg a day.
Although not all of these remedies will be effective for everyone, each one has been studied and the results show some level of effectiveness for many women. Always consult a doctor before doing anything while pregnant, since pregnancy is a very sensitive medical condition, and there are many ways to accidentally affect your babies growth and development. These treatments, albeit natural and organic, should still be taken only under the supervision of a medical professional.
