When trying to lose weight it is generally more difficult to eat foods that bring you closer to your goal when eating out. The bad food choices far outweigh the good. Healthy meals made at home where you have complete control over how things are cooked and the ingredients used are obviously the best choice. However sometimes you just do not have a choice between eating takeout and eating a meal you prepare yourself. Whether it is a lunch with clients at work, a date, or even just a night away with friends, there are going to be times that you will have to eat out. Even the convenience factor can come in to play. Let’s face it you do not always have the time to prepare a healthy meal.
When you have to eat out there are going to be choices to make. These choices can literally make or break you on your path to losing weight. When ordering out give yourself an advantage by avoiding these three bad choices.
Heavy Sauces are one of the hidden diet killers. A simple chicken breast meal might sound at first like a healthy choice. Everyone knows chicken breast is white meat and that is healthy right? Not always. Watch out for the sauce that often comes slathered over that chicken breast. One tip that the sauce is going to spoil your fun is to watch out for cream based sauces. Anything that says cream in the description is usually made with lots of dairy and butter. And trust me a restaurant is not going to use low fat alternatives in the food they are trying to sell you. They want all the fat to be present because all they are concerned with is the taste. Fat and tasty cream sauces equals repeat business and more money for them.
Number two to watch out for is anything that is deep fried. Now this might sound on the surface to be a no brainer but it is not always so obvious. Some of the seemingly healthy choices like a taco salad are hiding deep fried fat. Taco salad sounds healthy ( I mean it is a salad after all) but what you might not notice is that these salads are generally served in a taco shell style bowl. This bowl is deep fried and packed with fat. If you must go for a taco salad make sure to leave the bowl on the plate and just eat the actual salad.
The third thing to watch out for when ordering takeout is the dreaded pan crust pizza. Now I understand that pizza is generally bad all around but you might get the idea that if you just eat one slice it will not kill you. Sure it won’t kill you but one thing that only makes it worse is to get pan style deep dish crust. The crust on pizza is made from processed white bread flour and pan crust only adds more to this already bad food. If you absolutely have to order pizza then make sure and get thin crust.
Ordering takeout when trying to lose weight is never an easy task. Hopefully, following these tips will make it a little less challenging.
